dogs are the best! When I walked into the Humane Society every
dog in the kennel was barking except Simon. He gave me the "look" that
anyone who has adopted a dog knows, it's the look that says " I'm a good
dog, they locked me up but I'm innocent, I swear!" The first time I
walked Simon at the Humane Society in Vermont, he was flipping up in the
air like a fish on the end of his leash. I could tell he hadn't been
exercised enough, so it didn't worry me too much that he was exploding
with energy. That was exactly what I wanted, a dog with as much energy
as me!
Simon rarely barks, but says more in a day than most people I know, he
just does it with his eyes. He has such an array of human-like
expressions, that I find myself talking to him and treating him like a
person. I'm sure most dog owners notice this in their dogs after a
while, but I know there is more going on behind his eyes than just dog
thoughts.
He smiles whenever he runs, he stares at me when he wants something, and
he definitely lets me know when he isn't happy. His glare is enough to
make anyone get up and go for a walk. Anyone who has spent time with him
agrees it's eerie how human he is.
I can't say enough about adopting a dog, they understand that you've
helped them and they love you that much more. If you're looking for a
medium-sized, loyal, running/biking partner, look into a beagle-mix.
Adopting Simon is one of the best decisions I've made!
