Buster
came to us shortly after we bought our acreage - he was
apparently abandoned/dumped, and we took him in. The vet guessed him at
about a year old - he was already neutered, he would sit on command, and
he was housebroken and never tried to jump on furniture or chew things
in the house. We named him Buster after George Strait's blue heeler.
He is definitely a "working" blue heeler and proved himself early one
morning with our horses. It was still dark outside when I let him out
to potty, and realized the gate on the horse pasture wasn't latched, and
my horses had gotten out! I managed to get one horse back in the
gate, but our Lucky horse just wouldn't go back in the pasture. I had
to stay at the gate to keep the other horse in - so Buster got
around behind Lucky and went to work. He put that horse in the gate on
his own by doing what comes naturally to him. I didn't give him any
commands, he just realized what he needed to do and he did it!
He's got a forever home with us - he's a sweet guy. He was hit by a
car about a year ago - his one bad habit was chasing cars. He lost
a front leg to that incident, but he runs as fast as ever on three legs
- it amazes me to see his abilities considering he's missing a front
leg. He's got a forever home with us - he's a great dog and a
wonderful working farm partner!
