This
is Tia's Brooklyn Bridgette, a tawny, natural-eared, sixteen month old
Briard puppy. BB - what her humans call her - goes to work everyday at a
small company in Buena Vista, Virginia. She knows that she is a member
of the Working Group - so she feels that this must be what she is
supposed to do. BB is the office therapist - recreational (long walks),
nutritional (she prefers to go to the hot dog stand where she is allowed
to sit at the café tables and where the owner always brings her a
yummy), financial (she goes to the bank to assist with deposits) and
psychological (whenever someone is stressed, BB immediately goes to
their side to console). She's a busy girl, but she manages to get in her
fair share of fun.
Her name is as special as she is. All Briards born in 2006 were to be
named with B names. That means you have to be creative! Given that one
of her breeders is an engineer, and that one of her owners is a civil
engineer and one of the others works in the engineering department at
VMI - and that the later two have a particular fascination with the
Brooklyn Bridge, it seemed logical to somehow have an engineering name.
As all of her people were bouncing around B names - you know, Babs,
Betty, Barbara, Bethany, Belle, Brianna... they hit upon Bridget - one
thing lead to another, and before you know it she became Bridgette. It's
appropriate too as that is the French spelling, and Briards are from
France. They were introduced to this country by Thomas Jefferson. His
Briard was named Buzzy.
BB has a big sister named Lorna Doone, who is also a Briard. She's
7-ish, although her people don't really know how old she is. Ladies are
very good about keeping their ages a secret, don't you know! Lorna goes
to the office too, although as a senior partner, she is the office dog
emeritus. She keeps toys, snacks and her blanket at the office just in
case she decides to spend the day there. Lorna was rescued through
Petfinder.com and introduced the breed to her human family. Now they
can't imagine themselves without these two wooly-mammoths in the house,
the office, the car, on the sofa, on the bed, helping in the kitchen ...
BB says, "No coffee, no briard!" Doesn't she look sad that her cup is
empty?
With tail wags and puppy kisses,
BB and her sister Lorna Doone
