Scout, the Dog of the Day
Name: Scout
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male Breed: Beagle, Pit Bull
Home: Franklin, Tennessee, USA

Do you wanna play ball? I do, I do! Playing tennis ball is my favorite thing in the whole wide world! Mommy and Daddy say that I'm addicted to it, because I wake them up every morning by "tossing" the ball in their face. It's as if I'm saying, "Time to get up...time's a wasting...let's go, let's go!" I'm also relentless about it when they get home, when they're trying to relax on the couch, when they're cooking. You name the time, and I'm always ready.

My name is Scout and I'm a rescue dog. In this picture, I'm about two and I'm four now. I came from somewhere in Roane County in Tennessee. A wonderful lady rescued me from sure demise, on the day I was to be put down! She brought me back to Franklin, Tennessee where I was adopted and I now live with my brother, Snow (a Chow/Terrier mix), and my sister, Isabelle (a beautiful, black longhaired cat). Mommy and Daddy took Snow to the vet's office for an annual exam, and Mommy mentioned that she wanted to get another dog. She and Daddy had lost their beloved Chow/Lab mix several months prior and were ready for a new challenge. As luck would have it, I had recently arrived to be neutered and I was recuperating. Mommy fell in love with me immediately, but Daddy took a little convincing. The rest is history!

I'm pretty sure that I'm a Beagle/Pit Bull mix, but I'm not positive about that. Mom wants to get my DNA tested. I just know that I'm quite handsome and I have the sweetest personality in the world. Mommy says I'm the "Best Boy." That wasn't always the case, though. Although I've always been a Sweetie Pie, it was obvious that I had never been inside when I came to live with my new family. I didn't understand that I couldn't go potty any where I felt like it, and everything scared me...the t.v., mirrors, even the drawer opening to the stove! I got used to it all, though, and with lots of patience from my family, and a few months, I became quite well-adjusted. I don't have any accidents any more, I don't chew, and nothing scares me. I'm fearless!

I'm a Snuggle Bunny and I sleep with Mom and Dad every night. I'm quite the Daddy's boy because he can really throw that tennis ball. But if I'm tired, don't feel well, or just want to snuggle, I'm all about my Mom. I feel great now, but when Mom and Dad first got me, I had Heartworms and had to have treatments. That meant that for a whole, entire month afterwards, I had to be very quiet and still. That was absolute torture for me! It was for Mom and Dad, too, because they were so worried about me and keeping me quiet and still was next to impossible. We all made it through, though.

Besides playing tennis ball, I also like to go on long walks and see everyone in the neighborhood. Mom also calls me her "Social Butterfly" because I do not know a stranger and will greet anyone with tail wag. The whole neighborhood loves me and I have several admirers! Silly Girl dogs are always wanting me to play with them. I also like to annoy my brother and sister. They love me, though, and don't really mind putting up with me. They know deep down that I really needed a good home with lots of love and attention.

Thanks for letting me share my story. I hope it will inspire others that have room in their hearts and home to welcome a pet like me. Remember, mixed dogs like me make the best pets ever, and we're always so grateful to get a forever home!

   Sincerely,
   Scout
