Rosy, the Dog of the Day
Name: Rosy
Age: Four years old
Gender: Female Breed: Long-haired Chihuahua
Home: Raytown, Missouri, USA

Rosy is a four-year-old long haired Chihuahua whom we adopted through rescue three years ago. When you see her playing and happy today it is hard to imagine her terrible start to life.

In late January 2004 there was a terrible fire at the property where she lived. The house burned down, and the woman who owned it, along with 9 pregnant dogs inside, died. Outside in the snow in the backyard, firemen found rabbit hutches with 57 dogs crammed inside of them in freezing temperatures. Rosy was one of those dogs rescued by them that day and taken to a shelter where a rescue group in our area, came and took numerous dogs from the fire back to Kansas City. I was contacted the next day to foster her. My husband drove out in a snowstorm to get her and she was all dirty and scared because rescue hadn't had chance to clean her up yet. To us she was beautiful and after three baths we finally had her "shining." She only weighed 3.5 pounds and it was obvious that she was starving. We discovered her to be around seven or eight months old when we took her to our vet and two days after she arrived we adopted her. There was no way this little lady was going anywhere else!

It was quite a sight to see Rosy enjoy her new found freedom. She began running through the house, nonstop, and once the snow melted outside, she would literally fly around the backyard with her legs straight out behind her 'til she would just drop down and take a nap, like puppies do. It was then we decided she would never be kenneled again.

Today she is very loving, although she can't remain still if you pick her up. She prefers for you to sit down at her level so she can climb all over you and give kisses. We now have three other adopted chi's and she is definitely the social butterfly of the "pack". At 4 1/2 pounds she is healthy and living life to the fullest.
