Please
let me introduce my sweet Kiera Jean, mamma's dream! She came to
us in a very round about way, and we are so glad that she is with us.
She is an in your face kind of girl, who believes it's All About Kiera!
She is one of three Old English Sheepdogs that share our life, all three
have been adopted.
Kiera's story is pretty sad but very typical of rescue cases. She was
originally purchased thru a pet store, she was cute and cuddly and then
when she got bigger, with little or no training, she was given away to
the next family and so it went, she was "given" to several families the
same way. One day I came to the realization that I really wanted a
second sheepie as my first, Tyler, was beginning to show his age and I
wanted the dog that would help me over the grief of the inevitable loss
that was approaching. So I found an online community and put out that I
was looking for a female Old English, and back came a reply from a lady
who had one she was looking to re-home. We drove the distance to check
her out, and while they were good people and responsible pet owners,
they clearly did not want her, and to be truthful, she was a hand full.
Home she came with us and she and Tyler seemed to get along pretty well.
Kiera had a cool attitude towards me, I think she identified me as the
person who took her away from her "happy" home one more time and as a
result I got a lot of cold shoulder and attitude from her. One day about
six or seven months of Kiera living with us and the usual cold response, I
walked in the door, she greeted me and gave me the tiniest of kisses on
the chin. I knew right then, I had her heart and I was right. She has
become the best and most loyal of dogs and I love her so much!
The moral to this story, is that no matter how hardened the dog or how
sad the story, with a little patience and consistency, love will win
over even the frostiest of hearts and that Pet Adoption is always a
smart choice. I always remind anyone looking to adopt a dog, make sure
the breed fits with your life style.
