Belle
was the best Christmas gift I could ever receive. I rescued her
from the local SPCA in December 2004. The Saturday I went to the SPCA
to look for a new dog, it was fate. She was nine years old and in rough
shape. She was brought in the previous Saturday (she was found
wondering the streets of a nearby city) and this particular Saturday
that I visited was the day she was to go up for adoption. When I passed
her cage she stared at me with her sad "puppy eyes" as if she was
begging me to take her home. I stood there as the attendant flipped her
card that indicated she was ready for a new home. I was the first name
on the list.
Four days later I went to pick her up, she had four other families
waiting in line just in case I did not show up. The day I took her home
it was an instant bond. She has been there for me through tears, love,
and laughter. I know it sounds silly, but my little dog makes me smile
every time I come home from a hard day, when I don't feel my best, or
when I just need someone to talk to. She is a complete snugglebug, she
always has to be touching you when you are lounging around. Belle is
awesome around other people and she gets so excited when she gets to
visit with her family. I honestly don't think of her as my pet, she is
more like my child. I love her more than anything and I would be
completely lost without her. She truly is girl's best friend!
