What
makes him special? Charlie is a dog who beat the odds. When people
ask, we say he'd a Whoodle - he's really a Wheaton/Poodle mix. He was
born healthy, and in his first eleven months all was well. I didn't work, and
I stayed home with him and in my spare moments I created a CD for dogs
called "Soothing Stories And Music For The Solo Dog" that helps lessen
separation anxiety, so that when I went back to work, he would have
company.
When he was 11 1/2 months old, however, he can down with Parvo Virus. He
didn't have many of the symptoms, so the vet didn't know what was wrong at
first. Charlie was in the hospital in intensive care for nine days. On
three different days, they called me and told me that he would die that
day. His weight went from 39 pounds to 19 pounds. I spent all day with
him, and I brought my portable CD player and played the CD for him. After
he came home, he was very weak, and within a year he had to go to the
hospital two more times with gastric hemorrhaging, but Charlie has a great
will to live, and he has fun every day, so he wanted to survive.
I cook his food, and he eats three to four meals a day. We have had three
different vets, traditional vets and homeopathic vets, and now I just wait
for Charlie to tell me if he has problems. He has good days and bad, but
he is happy whatever happens as long as he is with me, and he has other
dogs to play with, and his favorite CD. I call him the million dollar dog,
and his picture is up at the butcher shop, because I spend so much money
on him, but he is worth it; he's family.
