Emma, the Dog of the Day
Name: Emma
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female Breed: Australian Shepard, Sheltie
Home: Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Emma Bean McMannis is the cutest dog I have ever, don't you think? Emma came to live with us about a month after Georgia, our other Aussie mix, was hit by a car. We were not sure we were ready for another dog, but we were all depressed and decided we needed another spunky, live wire in the house. So...enter...Emma! We were just calling her Emma until one day she told us that her God-given name was "Emma Bean McMannis" so we had to start calling her that. Other nicknames are "The Bean Machine", "Tater, tater Emminator", "Beaner", "Little Bits of Love" and on and on! She was just a year old when we adopted her. She had been living in a house with college kids so needless to say she was still a little rough around the edges! Now she is pure delight.

She is so full of personality. She will talk to you if she wants something and she feels you aren't moving fast enough. It's kind of a slow, low, drawn-out growl. It is so funny. She also is relentless when it comes to breakfast and dinner. She will prance around "talking" and if you ask her what she wants she will lead you to her food bin and bowl and bounce around licking her lips, smiling and wagging her whole body to show you she is ready for food! You cant deny her either!

When she thinks she is in trouble she will lower her head, tuck her ears back and squint her eyes all while slowly wagging her tail. Again, how can you not immediately forget what she did and give her a big hug. She also does that whole routine when she is outside and doesn't want to come back in. I think she knows it will win us over and she will get her way.

Emma is so gentle and loving. She was shy at first, like all rescues are, but has become quite the snuggle-bug and lover-dog. She will often do "drive by licks" which is just passing you while you are doing something and gently give you a lick and a tail wag. She is so cute. Other things that bust my heart open wide are: how she gets toy after toy out of basket in the dog room and brings them to the TV room and makes a pile around her, then she curls up and goes to sleep. I also love how she can sit for hours in the back yard and watch squirrels, and how she crosses her front paws when she lays down.

She really loves life. She loves walks, running in the dog park and stirring up the other dogs, she loves finding the sun spot and falling asleep, she loves being outside and playing with her big sister Marley. She is simply full of love and we are so grateful to have her in our lives. I think Georgia sent her to us because she knew we needed another spitfire in the house.
