We
decided in February of 2007 to get a new member of the family. We
went to the canile (dog shelter) as we wanted to rescue a dog. There are
just too many dogs in shelters that never see a good home to buy one
somewhere else. We looked all around and for the most part we couldn't
find a dog that was good with cats so decided to get a puppy that way we
could train her to get along with her new kitty sisters.
Artica wasn't even available for adoption yet as she had just come in
with her three sisters that morning and would be under quarantine for at
least ten days. We heard her story. She and her sisters were found in a
box on the side of a busy street and if it wasn't for a stranger passing
on a bicycle and hearing them then who knows what would have happened.
They were all really scared and terrified of people. We spent about an
hour with them all the first day and decided on Artica ... she was a
fluffy little teddybear and even though she was scared still wanted so
much to be cuddled and even gave kisses before we left her. She ended up
staying at the shelter for almost three weeks as she was too young to come
home. We went to see her almost every day. She became very friendly and
ran out as soon as she heard our voices.
When she came home she broke out of her shell completely and was a wild
and wooly little beast. She loved the cats instantly. But the cats
weren't too sure about her. We have gotten three other cats since she came
to live with us and she adores them and they her. They are best buddies.
She thinks she is the mommy of the two youngest. It is very cute too
watch. She is very vivacious and there is never a dull moment. She loves
to play soccer and catches the ball in the air. She can run for hours.
She sleeps in our bed every night and only gets down to snuggle with her
kitties. She is a joy and the life of the 'party'. She has come a long
way from scared little bundle of fur to the beautiful vivacious girl she
is now.
