Olive, the Dog of the Day
Name: Olive
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Home: Huntington Station, New York, USA

Olive is special, since she knows how to smile and smothers us in kisses. She was just six months in photo, but with a name like Olive, who could resist a giant martini glass?

Olive is a 7.5-pound Yorkie who thinks she is a 75-pound Labrador. She is absolutely fearless. At eight months old, she chased a huge racoon under our shed and was trapped for an hour but was able to hold it off until the police came to rescue her. She loves to fetch and over the last year has become very adept at agility. She jumps through tires, up and down seesaws, A-frames, weaves and generally has a ball running around with other dogs. She is also very affectionate and cuddly. She loves to sleep under the covers but has a bad habit of licking our faces in the middle of the night. I never would have thought a little dog could wrap herself around my finger but she has.

She recently chased a huge racoon up a tree. She held it at bay until I was able to get her inside. The racoon was hissing and spitting at her, probably weighed four or five times more than her but would not descend. If she would just stop licking us during our deep sleep, it would help me stay awake during the day. However, it is worth it to have Olive in our lives.
