This
is Just A Savage (casual name "Savage"). I had dreamed of adopting a
retired racing greyhound for years! Contrary to his name, Savage is
anything but. The wonderful people at "Greyhounds Only" helped us adopt
Savage, they matched him (of the available group of dogs at the time) with
our female JR Terrier mix, Jasmine.
In October of 2005, Savage came to live with us. Savage's mild disposition
and low prey drive make him a perfect companion to Jasmine. After coming
from his "foster" home it only took him a short while to master the stairs
and take treats from our hand, and give kisses. It took about six months for
his true personality to really come out and he is still blossoming! Savage
is very sweet and playful and loves to play with his "sister". Savage is
also a "Velcro" dog with his "mom." And he's a dream to groom (he is so
well trained from his kennel days it's wonderful) and walk (albeit a
little nervous outdoors with loud vehicles, etc.) and loves to run at full
speed outdoors. At a recent Greyhounds Only function, Savage was the top
donation dog!
Savage also is very vocal and expressive in communicating his needs, but
never barks unless someone is at the door. Savage loves toys, especially
soft ones, lying on everyone's bed and the couch, doing the "cockroach"
and also has great fun removing clothes from the laundry basket during the
night and for us to find all over the living room in the morning.
We can't imagine life without Savage, and I don't think Jasmine could
either, they are very bonded. We are blessed.
