About Us
Hermione, the Dog of the Day
Name: Hermione
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female Breed: Bluetick CoonHound
Home: Johannesburg, South Africa

Hello. My name is Hermione, named after the Harry Potter character, because my mommy is absolutely nuts about those books.

I absolutely adore food, and dance around in big circles when it is meal time. I also like to jump on my mommy to make her move faster. She doesn't seem to like it very much, but it is fun anyway.

My nose gets me in trouble sometimes. I can smell food any where, and am always very determined to find it, even if my daddy says, "No." I just think he is testing me. I can't understand why his face gets so red, can you?

I love swimming, especially on a hot day (we have lots of those here), when I can paddle around in the water, then run inside and leave lovely wet footprints all over Mommy's clean floor. It is even more fun to jump on the white duvet.

I really do give my mommy and daddy a hard time, but they really do love me more than anything and tell me so all the time.

Bluetick coonhounds are very rare in South Africa. We were very lucky to get a dog like her. We only know of one other person who has her sister.

At first she was very hard work, but since we learned how to handle her, she has been the best pet we have ever had. I love her to bits and would never change her.

Hermione loves her food to the point of obsession. She knows when it is 16:00 and it is supper time - to the point that she dances in circles and jumps about four feet in the air across us as we walk!

Walking is also one of her favorite activities, and she loves socializing with other dogs and people we meet. When we get back home, the first thing she does is paddle in the pool to cool herself down.

Her characteristic howl can also be heard up and down the street if we dare leave her at home. She loves driving in the car. I have to open the window so that she is able to stick her head out and have her ears, eyelids and gums flapping in the wind. She also gets very upset with me if I dare do anything as inconsiderate as stop at a stoplight or stop sign!!

We really love her, so thank you again for giving us this opportunity to show her off to the rest of the world!
