This
is my darling, Jessi, in this year's Halloween costume. She doesn't
seem to like being Shrek though. Jessi is supposed to be a Rat Terrier,
but she looks like a Boston Terrier with a Beagle face. When people ask,
we tell them she's a Boston Pocket Beagle and most of them accept that
without question.
Jessi is the smartest dog I've ever known. Not only does she learn quickly,
but she sometimes just sits and studies things that are going on around
her. I believe she is a perpetual student of life. Perhaps some day she
will be a guru. For now she seems quite happy to be an agility dog. She
loves to run, run, run and jump over everything. Her favorite thing is
to climb. She's only about eight inches tall, but she loves to climb the
highest obstacles in the agility course. She is totally fearless! I've
never found anything that scares her.
Jess tried therapy dog work for a year, visiting a local nursing home
and getting lots of hugs from the residents, but all of those hugs
seemed to stress her so she's retired now. She'd rather be on the go.
She is absolutely the love of my life and she brings smiles to all who
meet her. She is a definite favorite in my neighborhood and I'm pretty
sure people who drop by are visiting Jessi more than they are visiting me.
She knows lots of commands like sit, stay, down, right paw, bow, jump,
climb, etc. (I told you she's smart!) She's tricky about hiding a
treat to bring out later. Even when you think you know all of her hiding
places, she'll hide a treat and you'll never find it until she brings it
out to eat. Her other 'gift' is her ability to befriend any dog, no
matter how aggressive that dog is. She just seems to know how to act to
put them at ease with her. The picture below is Jessi with her friend,
Ginger, a boxer mix.
That's my Jessi, my joy and my dog of the day every day.
