Sahara
has been a special dog even before she came to our little family.
Sahara was the runt her litter and the owners of her parents didn't think
that Sahara was going to make it. But they did their best and fed her and
kept on eye on her. Eventually Sahara did gain her strength and was able
to join her brothers and sisters. Then I came and got her and brought her
home. I felt horrible at first because I could tell that she really missed
her siblings, and she didn't really want anything to do with us. I was
scared that she would never come around. It took her about a week and now
we are her family. She doesn't like to be separated from us, but she does
well with other people too. Sahara is a real people dog, she loves meeting
new people. When we take her on walks she has to go up to people and say
hi. So my husband and I always wondered what she would do if someone came
to our house uninvited. Unfortunately we had the opportunity to find out.
One week last October, my husband left to go out of state for business. I
always hated to stay home alone until Sahara came into my life. She always
makes me feel comfortable. Until that night. Sahara and I were asleep on
the bed, Sahara in my husband's spot next to the window. It was about 4:00
in the morning when I woke up to Sahara barking and growling at our
window. As I opened my eyes I saw a flash of light come our window from a
flash light. It took a couple of minutes, but Sahara finally settled down.
Then she ran to the back door that led to our back yard. She wouldn't
leave it, I tried to get her to come back to bed, but she wouldn't leave
that door. I knew she had to go out there and see for herself that who
ever was there had left. So I let her out. It only took a couple of
minutes and she was back inside. We went back to bed and just laid there.
Sahara eventually went back to bed, but I was awake the rest of the
morning.
I don't know what would have happened if Sahara hadn't been there. The
cops said that she scared the burglars away, which I knew. They must have
climbed over the fence and our window is right beside that. Sahara must
have heard them climb over that fence and that is what set her off. It was
quite the sight. If I was the person on the other side of the window I
would have left, too. So needless to say now my husband and I know that
Sahara is all business when it comes to people trying to break into our
house. Just another added bonus to having a dog. People say that having a
dog is a good security for your house, but you really never know until it
happens, I'm just thankful that she didn't get hurt. I know in my heart
that Sahara would have done anything to save me that night. She is a great
dog and I wouldn't give her up for the world. Sahara saved my life.
Thanks for reading my story about my dog Sahara, she really is a great
dog. This is a picture of her from the doggy salon, I figured this is the
best picture of her I have looking her best!
