My dog's name is Brody Beach. I got him in July of 2003 and they were
estimating he was about a year old then. He is a true mutt. The shelter
we got him from first had him listed as a Chow mix but after talking
with our vet and trainer, as well as various other people, we believe he
is more of a Husky Golden Retriever mix. Although our vet says you
would really need to see all 4 of his grandparents to have any sort of
certainty.
He was a stray and was supposed to be euthanized at the Chicago Shelter.
They kept him a couple days longer than usual and fortunately one of
the suburbs (Oak Park) shelter was low on dogs and went to go get some
from the Chicago one. The Oak Park employee did some temperament tests and
realized, what it only takes seconds to realize, that this was one GREAT
dog! So he took him to the Oak Park no kill shelter. After Brody was
there for 4 months I became the luckiest dog owner ever!
He doesn't
have a mean bone in him although when he plays he can sound extra tough
even though he's a big baby who's even scared of bugs. As is proved by
the fact that he's usually found hiding behind the toilet in the
basement if there's a fly in the house somewhere. He always wants to
play. He loves toys especially squeaky stuffed animals, which he often
sleeps with under his chin. He is about 50lbs but definitely thinks
he's a little lap dog and will jump up and sit on anyone's lap who lets
him. He loves other dogs too ... but is sometimes a little freaked out
about very little ones. I think he's not quite sure how to play with
them or what they are.
When I scold him after he's taken food or
something it doesn't phase him. Fortunately he's usually well-behaved
because I swear he has no remorse what-so-ever, sometimes he even has
the nerve to bark back at me while I'm yelling at him. I could
go on forever, but my dog is seriously the greatest!
