Daisy Mae, the Dog of the Day
Name: Daisy Mae
Age: Eight years old
Gender: Female Breed: Yorkshire Terrier, Dachshund
Home: Spokane, Washington, USA

Hi, my name is Daisy Mae, Daisy for short, and I am a very special girl. I was born in a litter full of boys! I was the only girl and to top that off I was born with one of my front paws missing. I did not let that stop me - I took charge of my litter mates and soon became the most bossy one of the bunch. My human mom knew I was the one for her when a girl in her Sunday school class told her about me. She wanted me sight unseen. When she met me for the first time she fell in love with me. Even though I wouldn't let her cuddle me for long... the boys were getting out of line and I needed to go set them straight.

I love to chase squirrels, cats, mice and just about anything that catches my attention. Mom has never once regretted bringing me home. I am the best cuddle bug at night (actually I hog the bed). Just a few nights ago my mom was sleeping soundly and I think I may have saved her life. She had given herself a shot before she went to bed and in the middle of the night I knew something was wrong and had to get her attention. I cried and cried and when she woke up I looked into her eyes and cried some more. Sometimes humans are not that smart... she thought I needed to go outside, was hungry, or wanted to play so she just went back to sleep when I didn't respond to her commands. I had to wake her up three times before she got up to see what the problem was. It was then she noticed she was bleeding and had soaked her clothes and the sheets. Once she stopped the bleeding and things were back to normal I curled up and went back to sleep. Mom now says I am her little hero. All I know is I did it because I love her.
