These
are pictures of a very special Pomeranian named Penny. She died on
June 29, 2008 at approximately fifteen years of age. She came to our house
as a stray on August 7th, 1996. I called the animal control, humane
society and police dept. I left my name and phone number and ran an ad in
the newspaper for two weeks about her. No one called, so here she stayed.
She was a joy to have as she loved everybody and other dogs. She did not
have a mean bone in her body. When my mother was in a nursing home, we
would take Penny and everyone knew her name. There was one old man who
didn't want to associate with anyone and had a pretty foul mouth. Penny
would see him and run and jump on his lap. This man would hold Penny and
cuddle her and talk to her like she was an old friend.
A few years later Penny started falling over, so we called our vet and
were told to bring right in. After a thorough exam the vet said that she
is a least fifteen now, and her heart was giving out. He said Penny was
not in any pain, but felt it would not be long before she passed on. Four
days later Penny went outside and fell over. My wife picked her and
brought her into the house and placed her on her bed. She rubbed her face
on her blanket and was gone. We had lost our jewel, but are very thankful
for the time we had with her.
