Keelin
was rescued from a pet hoarder when he was six weeks old. (The man
had 74 collies, in addition to sheep, horses and fowl on his property in
inhumane conditions.) Keelin spent his first nine months in shelters,
the last two in San Francisco Animal Care and Control where he learned
simple tasks like walking up and down stairs. Since he could not be
adopted until the case against his former owner was resolved, I took him
in as a foster that May. The case was concluded in December and I
officially became Keelin's human.
Keelin was afraid of most noises and new places when I first brought him
home, but he immediately took to all the dogs at the dog park. In fact,
we call him the "Gap greeter" because Keelin says hi and bye to everyone
- dogs and people - as they come and go from the park. In addition to
dogs of all sizes, Keelin loves to play with all his toys, but
especially the squeaky ones at 4am. He has a mind of his own most days
but his handsome looks and cuddly personality let him get away with it!
