Nelson
joined our family about five years ago when we adopted him from a
local rescue group. His breed is undetermined (Havanese? Maltese/Yorkie
Mix?). I was attending yet another Meet and Greet, looking for that one
special dog, and was about to leave when I walked past his pen. Nelson
stood up on his hind legs, waved his fore paws and gave me a look that
said "please get me out of here!" I picked him up, he placed his head on
my shoulder and let out a loud sigh. That was that!
At the time, he wasn't all that handsome due to pre-rescue stress, neglect
or abuse. He had very little hair but the vet did not find any skin
issues. I couldn't resist that brown nose and those amber eyes! His coat
grew back nicely within months and that is what most people (especially
women) notice first. We've never had any skin problems and he doesn't
shed! He's very neurotic about his ball and loves to play fetch. In the
photo, he's covered with little blue flowers after "hunting" in the
backyard. He is a very special member of our family.
