Max
is nothing but a big hunk of hairy love. He enjoys nothing more than to be
touched, stroked, petted, combed, massaged, scritched, whatever, as long as it
involves a loving touch. Except baths... he doesn't care for a wash in the tub.
But he takes great delight in being sprayed with the hose, running around in
the sprinkler or wading in the creek. Max is long-legged and large for a
Golden, weighing in at 87 pounds. The bad thing about that is he takes up way too
much room on the bed, and he has hip displaysia. So we try to be careful about
food intake because he can't get as much vigorous exercise as he needs, and
we're to old to be carrying a big, fat retriever up and down stairs. It is
hard, because he can beg for munchies so pitifully with those soft brown eyes.
He has a passion for chewing and wrestling with sticks and peeling bark off
branches, crunching empty plastic soda bottles to make a noise, and playing
tag and wrestling with our one year-old Tuxedo cat, MC, who just adores Max and
follows him everywhere.
Max was a gift. The people who were selling Goldens couldn't find a buyer
for him, so they gave him to us. I didn't really want another dog. We had to
put our last dog down, and I wasn't interested in dealing with all that again
someday. But my husband brought him home, and I fell in love. He sticks to me
like glue and I've learned to live with dog hair on and in everything because
love bears all things. He's the best!
