This
is Phoebe - rescue dog, and a calendar girl! (She appeared in a calendar
with one of her pups, Moe).
Phoebe came to us at age five after having three litters. She did not have a lot
of care from what I understand. But she sure did take to us. I had my St.
Bernard, Margaret, die the year before and just wasn't ready to replace her,
or so I thought. A friend of mine told me to go check out this bulldog, and
long story short, two hours later she was on our couch. She has been a great
family dog and very protective of us all. That underbite does tend to put off
people! She does not like men, especially tall ones, and I have had to warn a
couple of men to back out of the door for their sakes. She gets along with
children very well and loves attention, especially having her picture taken.
That happens a lot when we travel on the road. Rest stops are always a media
affair!
She travels well and has a bladder the size of New Jersey. Phoebe likes to
chew on those heavy ropes made of cloth and likes to play "see if you can
get this out of my mouth before you lose a hand" with us. Her favorite
foods are Purina OM and frozen green beans and apples. Phoebe is very
affectionate and playful, and yet is the typical bully who lays on the
couch (actually in her bed) and would eat bonbons if they were available
to her. She dislikes cats immensely and even though she is eleven (a ripe age
for bullies), she can tear across the backyard in pursuit of them at a
good clip. She is "my dog" and you can tell where I am by where she is.
Also, her snoring is so loud and vigorous that I think the windows go in
and out. Forget watching TV when she snores; I never hear the last few
words of a sentence or the punchline.
