Buddy, the Dog of the Day
Name: Buddy
Age: Three and a half years old
Gender: Male Breed: Tervuren Shepherd
Home: Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

This is Buddy. When our neighbors adopted him a little over a year ago from the Humane Society - after being picked up off the streets - they had named him Ernie. "Ernie" has some serious issues at that time... his beautiful fur was like wire and he had none on his tummy. He was constantly itching and chewing on his skin, and was not sociable at all. After a few weeks of tearing up their house and "escaping" every time they would open their door, they decided that they could not keep him and were going to take him back to "the pound." Well, we had taken a shine to him on several of the occasions of his escapes in the neighborhood and he had obviously taken a shine to our three girls Gracie (Siberian Husky), Nellie (Golden Retriever) and Daisey (another adoptee - a Lab/Boxer mix).

We could not bear the thought that since he had already been "in prison" for at least two months before this adoption and, at approximately two years old, with his "problems" his chances of ending up in a good and nurturing home were slim at best.

We told the neighbors that we would foster him until he was in better shape and try to find him a home on our own - we already had our three big girls and a fourth was not something we were considering. Well, to make a long story short, we, of course fell in love with "Ernie" and after several weeks of intensive "love therapy" - in addition to my wife's constant nursing and rehabilitation efforts - we decided that he was fitting seamlessly into our "pack" and decided to rename him. Not just because Ernie didn't seem like a good name but he needed a new name to go with his new life.

Buddy has now become such a tremendous joy in our lives that we (including "the girls") could not imagine having him around to give us great big hugs and giant smiles of appreciation for his new and pampered life. After all, who wouldn't love living with three hot girls and a mom and dad that love you?

Buddy is special because he was just miserable when we adopted him and now he appreciates his life so much he shows it through his unconditional love for his new pack.
