This
is my Snowdrop. I think she is special - she has a very sweet nature,
is quiet and polite, and spreads good cheer wherever she goes. She loves to
travel, and has her own Passport, and we go through the Channel Tunnel to
France, Holland and Belgium on Holiday. You can read a little of her story
at her website.
We live in England, although both she and I were born in Scotland. Snowdrop
had been bred for showing purposes, and was kept in a cage most of the time.
The lady in Scotland decided she was not suitable, I am not sure the exact
reason why, but at the time she had tear staining, which is common in the
Maltese Breed, so she decided to sell her on.
I was able to eliminate that problem, and as you can see, she now has the most
beautiful eyes. She does not do tricks as such, but she is very clever. She is on
medication for a skin allergy, and has a capsule every night at eight -
however, if I forget, then she comes up to me and stares. If that does not
work, then she starts to paw at my leg, until the penny drops, and she gets
the pill, then she settles down for another nap. She even does this if she
has been sleeping, waking up within minutes of 8 o'clock.
Since coming into our lives at four and a half months old, she has listened
intently to everything we say, as though trying to learn the language. This
has proved to be the case, as she understands if we tell her that visitors as
coming, and mention a name, about half and hour before they are due to arrive,
she will go and jump up on a window seat, then onto the window sill, and
watch out of the window until they arrive. She loves visitors ! Also if I
tell her the night before, that we have to get up early the following morning,
because we are going somewhere in the car, then she will wake me up before the
alarm rings ! She has a built in sense of time.
She is exceptionally clean, and will hold up her paw to get cleaned if she was
to step in a puddle by accident. She gets a bath every week, and after being
blown dry, she races as fast as she is able to show herself off to Daddy, and
then she goes to look and admire herself in a mirror ! (How cute is that !)
It is our fault though - because we are always telling her that she is very
pretty !
We take her to visit nursing homes where people are sick or terminally ill,
and she brightens up their day, with her sunny disposition and sweet nature,
skipping along the corridors like a white cloud bringing a smile to all those
lucky enough to catch a glimpse !
Of all things, she is like a shadow, staying as close as possible all the
time. She comes with me into my office quite often, as she does not like
being left alone in the house, and I can only say that her presence has a
calming influence to those with the need to visit a lawyer's office, sitting
on a chair beside me, and behaving just like a perfect little lady !
She is never more than a heartbeat away!
