Hello,
these are pictures of my best friend Sloppy Joe. Joe is just over a
year old and is the gentlest dog I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We
could tell right away that he was special. Despite his size, he is as gentle
and loving as a little bunny rabbit.
As near as we can tell, Joe is a Boxer/Mastiff mix. We live in Cottonwood, Ca.
located in the Northern part of the state. This gives Joe plenty of places
such as creeks, rivers, mountains and lakes to explore his reality.
When he was three months old, he lived with the people behind us. They
constantly neglected him. I would pick him up over the fence when they
would disappear for days on end and we would care for him, (along with our
other five dogs). A few weeks later, their house was raided because of
other issues, and off they went to jail. We of course took custody of
Sloppy Joe, (who had no name at the time). We began raising him and we
were really concerned because he would sleep for sometimes sixteen hours a
day. It turns out that he was growing at a really fast rate and required the sleep.
Sloppy Joe is being raised with a Black Mouth Cur, a Redbone Hound, and
three chihuahuas whom I refer to as "The Mexicans". He is a very
affectionate dog who likes to sit next to me on the sofa and place his
head against my chest. He is very tolerant and enjoys the company of our
three year old grandbaby. He enjoys going to the creek where he spends all
his time swimming, and he prefers to chase butterflies instead of the
squirrels and gophers the other dogs chase. He doesn't chase sticks like
the other dogs, nor does he have any particular toy. He lives for the
affection he gets from us in the family. It should be noted that he does
enjoy chasing butterflies when ever he gets the chance.
He now weighs approximately 165 pounds. When he demands a hug, you give him
a hug. We call him "the gentle giant," which best describes his disposition.
Sloppy likes to sleep in bed with us, (all 165 pounds of him). We decided on
his name shortly after he came to live with us. It was the direct result of
his salivation issues.
The donkey is on the path to the creek from our house. They say hello each
time we go. Even if the donkey is in another part of the field, he will come
to the fence to greet Sloppy Joe.
