Her
life started out rough, found beside the concrete divider in a rate
snowstorm on I-77 near downtown Charlotte. Someone had evidently tossed her
from a moving car. If she wasn't black, she might have not been seen and ended
up as roadkill. She was covered in mange and had scabs around her ears, one
of them ended up being crooked. I guess she was the runt of the litter and
wasn't "desirable."
She blossomed and became a very healthy and rambunctious girl. She was a Chow and
something mix with thick black, shiny fur that hid all evidence of her dubious
beginnings. Her expressive eyes showed that she was always aware of what was
going on around her. And as with any dog, she loved us all unconditionally.
Stella was with us nine years and we are all she had ever known. Stella is
really all my twelve-year-old daughter has known, my daughter called Stella her
"sister". Stella wasn't allowed up on the furniture but she adopted a chair
as her own and spent most of her quiet time curled up there.
Stella passed away in December after a fierce but woefully short battle with
liver cancer. We miss her, and will always love her.
