Rachel
is one of four rescue dogs. We rescued her Mom (Sarah) and her two
brothers (Samson and Jacob). She was five weeks old when we rescued her and her
family at a Petsmart after two young boys walked in, dropped the crate on
the floor and ran out the door. Both the mother and puppies were covered
with mange (both types) and neglected. I was standing at the register
checking out after buying items for my four-year-old Chihuahua Bruiser when the
crate slammed to the ground. The store manager was going to call animal
services and I said "No! I'll take them." She was shocked and asked if I
was sure, and I said yes. To make a long story short, I was going to get them
medical help and get them homes. Twenty-four hours later they all had
Biblical names and were all mine! It took four months to cure the mange and
secondary skin infections and these four angels have been through a lot.
Rachel is our 'accident prone' baby... from getting a stick caught in her
throat, to being allergic to the sutures during the spay and now having a
broken leg from falling off the bed. (Actually we think she got pushed off
during commotion that happened when the mailmen rang the doorbell). She had
surgery ten days ago, and they put in a plate and six screws. She went
yesterday to take the bandage off only to have the 'lamp shade' put on to keep
her from picking at the suture line. Poor thing, but she's a trooper ...
always happy and licking you to death!
