Ammo
is an eleven-year-old trained Therapy Dog who likes to make people
laugh. She is a rescued Pitbull. Ammo, as you can see, loves her ball. She
loves to catch it, whether you bounce it in the air or just throw it. She
will bring it back and place it right in your hand. This is great for the
kids who like to play with her. Laser light chasing was how we exercised
her in the winter when she was younger. She would go nuts chasing it. She
was born in the city shelter and was bottle fed because she was only two
days old when we got her, and she is very loving. She was very gentle with
the six-week-old puppies that we adopted from the same shelter a year ago.
She taught them manners as well.
We call Ammo the "Anti-Fighting Pitbull." She will absolutely not tolerate
any fighting among dogs. She has broken up fights more than once between
other people's dogs. She even got a bite once that required stitches. She,
though, has never bitten anyone or any dog - ever.
She has now retired from therapy work because of arthritis. She still
plays ball, but I have to monitor her so she doesn't overdo it. Oh yeah,
she loves swimming and diving for rocks. We live by Lake Erie and if I let
her, she would swim even in the winter. If you have a pool, she will jump
in. Her tricks are not unusual, giving both one then the other paw, and
speaking when asked. I never taught her many tricks. She has learned most
of what she knows on her own. We had a dog named Bullet first, and was she
was Ammo's mentor. She still misses Bullet though. We love Ammo!
