Emma
is my Mini Aussie who turned one year old in July. Emma is wonderful, but
strong willed at times. She is very intelligent, but we are still working on
the fact that it isn't ok to turn around, grab the leash and pull on it. She
is getting better at that, but it can be very frustrating at times.
Emma and I began taking agility classes just after her 1st birthday and she
has proven to be a quick learner. She is learning things eagerly and quickly
and I definitely think we have found her niche. This past week I put her in a
sit, stay, took a good sized lead out, looked back said ok and off she went.
She was able to do a jump, dog walk and then two off center jumps quickly,
perfectly and with no other verbal cues from me. She is also progressing quite
nicely on her weave poles which seem to be the one thing that gives her
trouble. Class time is something we both look forward to and it has made the
bond between us grow even stronger. Emma knows by my routine when it is class
night. The other night while I was packing up her treats that I just made I
heard a clink behind me. Emma had gone upstairs, gotten a leash, brought it
down and dropped it at my feet. You can tell that she really enjoys to
"work". Her classes have helped her mature in several areas and I hope to be
able to enter her in agility competitions in the future.
Emma is a very loving and loyal dog and true to her breed she is very leery of
strangers. She typically isn't a very vocal dog. She isn't vocal when she is
playing and she doesn't bark when she hears the door when we come in and out.
She can even hear one of the other dogs barking and she is still silent. That
all changes though when someone she doesn't know comes in whether it be in our
yard or our house then she begins barking and doesn't stop until we calm her
down.
I think Emma is an absolutely beautiful little black tri and she is my dog of
the day every day, even when she misbehaves. Lucky for me those times are
becoming less frequent.
