Our
dog Dexter is so special! We rescued him from a bad environment. Last
year, we were looking for a good hunting dog. We found Dexter on
www.gundogsonline.com, and he was listed for only $100. We had to drive a
couple hours to go see him. We got there and he was kept with another pointer
alone outside. The kennels were dirty and he had green water. We knew he was
the one when we let him out and he wasn't interested in anyone, just in
finding the birds in the trees. We ended up taking him home the next week. He
was (and still is) a big baby. You could tell he was always locked up because
he was extremely skittish when he first came home.
We worked with him and everyone loved him right away (except my grandma) but
he easily fixed that. My grandma didn't want a dog, but the first morning he
was at my house, he was on the deck with us. We were all trying to get him to
come to us, but he went straight to grandma and jumped up on her lap. He is a
big, 70-pound dog so it was pretty hilarious! Now he is everyone's favorite
family pet. He is a fantastic hunter, but he is a little too curious. He got
so curious on a hunting trip, he got a face full of porcupine quills. It took
three grown men to hold him down and then another one to pick out the quills.
When we were remodeling, he came up and stole the workers tools if they set
them down. And he loves water bottles. He will sneak up behind you and steal
them if you have one. There are so many funny stories to tell and we haven't
had him for a year yet. He is just a wonderful dog. He loves to cuddle and we
wouldn't trade him for the world.
