Aspen's
litter of puppies were dropped off at the Humane Society of Burnett
County (www.hsburnettcty.org) without a mother
when they were only a week or two old. Due to being so young, the wonderful
people at the Humane Society split them up into pairs so they could be in the
homes of the volunteers so they could be bottle fed and paid extra attention.
We picked Aspen out at only a few weeks old and was able to have her over
when she was about three or four weeks old with her litter mate for a couple hours
as a play date. Although we had no idea what she would look like or what
breed she would be when she grew up, it was love at first sight.
Since that time Aspen has grown into a great family dog. She has an excellent
temperment as she is laid back pretty much all of the time but once you get
out any kind of ball, stick, or bring her to the lake, it is go time. Our ten
year old son and her have an excellent bond and there is nothing she would
not do for him or vice versa. Aspen has also help develop his soccer skills
as it is tough to keep the ball from her as she is able to kick it and can
move it around with her nose. She is also a great role model for her younger
dog sibling, a Springer Spaniel mix from the same Humane Society, as Aspen is
twice her size but she is very gentle and patient during some pretty trying
"puppy" moments. Aspen is a great member of our family!
