Blu
is a very special girl to me. I have been with her since she was a
puppy. In 2004, the year she was born, we were living in Bryan, Texas.
Blu's mother was in the middle of her pregnancy when our neighbor adopted
her from her previous owner. The neighbor was a co-worker of my mom and
often had to go out of town for work, so there I was, I was twelve at the time
and I volunteered to take care of Zoey, the AKC American Bulldog. I don't
know how many months, days, weeks it was when my mom called me when I was
doing homework, getting ready to leave to see Zoey and told me that the
owner's parents had came over to check on her and there were puppies
everywhere. I had rushed over there, and saw about twelve puppies that she had
brought to this world, though sadly one had been stillborn. I chose Blu as
my dog, because I just seemed to have that special connection with her.
As she grew, I was the one to always be there with her aside from her mom
Zoey and her siblings. I played with her, helped raise her and I even
started teaching her things myself. And when she was about eight weeks old she
came home with me. She was born on August 1, 2004.
After Blu turned two, she had managed to escape from our backyard when the
fence had been left loosely unlatched and ran out onto the road, only to
be hit by a car. She had a broken paw, and had badly injured her right
side. Thankfully, we gother straight to emergency care at the Vet and they
managed to help her, though her paw still gets painful for one to two minutes
every once and a while. Now she's running happily. Then when Blu turned four,
we moved from Texas to where we live now, St. Augustine, Florida. Then,
shortly after we moved we welcomed her "brother" Winston, a five-year-old
rescue Poodle.
Being ½ Bulldog, ¼ Cattle Dog and ¼ Pointer, Blu has good sniffing
ability and that snuggly nature too. I trained Blu all by myself through
these years, and she knows over 30 commands. Her best trick is "Flick". I
put treats on her nose and she patiently waits for me to say "Okay" before
she flicks them up with her nose and catches them in her mouth... well,
most of the time she catches them. I also taught all those tricks to
Winston, with a little teaching from Blu. Blu is very smart, so she is
easy to train and teach new things to. Blu is also very agile, she loves
running and maneuvering around makeshift courses I set up in the front
yard, and running circles around our Palm Trees. She play wrestles with
Winston and they play fetch together. When I take her down to the beach,
she likes digging in the sand and swimming out to get her toys. She's very
good at sharing, and she even runs to retrieve other dog's toys sometimes
when we take her out! Aside from playing with Winston, she likes playing
with her friend Sandy, a Boxer and Benny, a Beagle. Blu also loves the
sun, warm weather, running, chasing, squirrels, hunting, herding,
sniffing, rolling, exploring, meeting new people and dogs, relaxing,
cuddling and observing. She's a great dog, and I am so lucky to have her!
