This
is Imoto. He is very intelligent and even used our house wall to climb
over our fence once. He's very kind and it's great that he never even growls
at little kids no matter what they do to him. He's very patient and great to
take with us when we go on vacation and travel by car. We can't even imagine
going on vacation without him anymore, because he's always with us. He loves
to go on short walks with us as well as longer hikes and especially loves the
winter when he can play outside in the snow.
I always wanted to have a dog and so we finally, after my cousins got a dog,
we thought about getting one from a shelter and thought about different
breeds. After our visit to Japan, I looked into a magazine I bought at the
airport and we found out that there is someone who breeds these dogs about
three hours away from us. Since Shiba Inus originally come from Japan and
we'd seen a few there, we decided to just take a look at the puppies they had
at the moment ... And as it is so often the case with people who look at
puppies we immediately fell in love with him, who was the only one left out of five.
So after we made sure the lady who breeds them is very nice and the dogs have
a great life there, we decided to give him a new home. We could choose his
name ourselves and because we wanted a Japanese name for our Japanese dog, we
call him Imoto (the name sounded male enough to us). As it turned out, Imoto
actually means little/younger sister ... but it is his name, anyway.
Shibas in Germany are still rare, but they are getting more and more popular.
In our (more or less small) town/city, there are four Shibas, including Imoto
at the moment. Once or twice a year we go to a Shiba-meeting and there always
are about 20-30 dogs, which is great fun for everyone.
