About Us
Roxy, the Dog of the Day
Name: Roxy
Age: Seven years old
Gender: Female Breed: Standard Poodle
Home: Scotland, UK

Roxy is special because she is a rescue dog. And has come so far in her time with us, including getting weekly haircuts to make her feel good. She is a big part of Takarai Rescue and helps us do our work. Roxy is also now a pet dog and teaches young kids what it means to own a pet.

When we first got Roxy, she was found in a back-yard with several other dogs, a Labrador, a mixed Jack Russell type and several Border Collies. She was matted more than any dog we had ever encountered. We worked out she was around four year old at the time. Her previous owners only reason for her state was that a dog should be a dog and live outside. Needless to say this was not accepted as a good reason. So a week later she was delivered to us along with the Labrador named Bullet (now re-homed in the country). She was very unsure of people but would do as you asked with a cringe. She had previously been beaten into her training. After a vet check a closer look also found that he had bred her twice to the Labrador. After she was given some eye drops for her sore eyes we decided the first order of business was to get the mats off her. Due to her hair type the mats where bad but not laying next to the skin so we could cut them off easily. She stood for three hours without a fuss. By the end she had a sort of pelt after a good brush and a bath. Though it was weeks later we got the dirt from her skin out. The biggest change we have seen in Roxy is that she doesn't jump or cringe now when you talk to her or pet her. This took her the longest to get over...well over a year. After that we took her out to work with us a lot and she got better and better with new people everyday.

Roxy is very very smart. She is calm and doesn't jump up or bark a lot. Roxy can do a number of tricks : beg, sit, stay, cuddle, speak and leave even if the treat is on her paw. And she is the greediest dog. She east all left overs and still isn't fat or unhealthy. Roxy walks off the lead most of the time and loves playing with other dogs. Roxy is basically a perfect dog in every way, her one flaw is cats. She chases them outside but not inside. Roxy is a dog that is happy to lay in bed with you even if it be to 4pm in the day.

Roxy now had all our comforts and many fans. She has also helped many dogs find new homes just by being Roxy. She is a shining star in our lives and we would not trade her for the world. Roxy never really gets called by her name, it's usually Roo or Roodle or sometimes Roxy Rooooo! I really couldn't live without her.

Another wee note would be we get a lot of breeds into Rescue. Currently a Springer Spaniel and two St. Bernards so don't let people think you have to go to a breeder to get a purebred dog!

Here is a video of Roxy and one of our rescue dogs Molly the Doberman running in the field. And Roxy going into a silly mood when training, What Roxy and Xiah do when bored!
