Tosca
is not a typical retired racing Greyhound, as she never raced. She was
from an "oops" litter of two racing Greyhounds, meaning it was not a planned breeding.
We adopted Tosca before she was even born. We had decided we wanted to try
raising a Greyhound puppy. We found out about this litter and asked if we
could adopt one. When the litter was born we chose our puppy and named her
Tosca. There was a small problem though. Tosca was in Florida and we were all
the way in Canada. A few plans of getting her to us fell through, but she was
finally picked up by her daddy-to-be and flew back with him on an airplane!
She was four months old when she arrived home. She had the cutest, huge stand-up ears!
Tosca is quite a character, and she is small, even for a female Greyhound. She
feels that she needs to be the boss, and because of that we cannot have any
other female Greyhounds, just males. So she spends her days bossing around all
of her Greyhound "brothers". Two of them are Jamey,
(who passed away last year September), and her new Spanish Greyhound brother Lucas.
When she is not bossing her "brothers" around, she spends a lot of her time
sleeping either on the couch, or outside on the grass if the weather is nice enough.
Tosca is quite smart and has learned a lot of every day commands like sit,
down, heel, come and watch me. Her face is starting to turn grey now; we can't
believe that our puppy is getting older!
