Chance
is a Lemon Beagle we adopted from a rescue shelter over a year ago. He
just turned six in March and lives in our hometown of Seattle. My fiance and I
knew we wanted a dog, and put in a lot of research and spent several weeks
exploring different rescue shelters. On a whim we drove up to the Everett
Animal Shelter and he stole our hearts with one cock of his head. Chance was
abandoned at the shelter because his original owner couldn't care for him
properly and left him alone, caged, outside for days on end. He would howl
for attention until the neighbors finally asked the original owner to get rid
of him.
We were afraid at first that we might have the same issue with him, since we
live in an apartment complex where any howling wouldn't be appreciated by our
neighbors, but took him home anyway. Since we've adopted him, he has been a
loving member of our family. We never hear him bay like most beagles unless
he's sleeping. He has a funny habit of bringing us his leash when he knows
we're leaving to go somewhere, or bringing us our socks when we get home.
Everywhere we go with him, he makes an impression. People have come up asking
to pet him constantly, and he always wins them over with his friendly
behavior. At the local farmers market, he is an instant celebrity with all
the children because he waits patiently while they come up and hug him.
Chance truly is a special part of our lives, and is a living example of how a
little love and care can go a long way.
