Zeus, the Dog of the Day
Name: Zeus
Age: Five years old
Gender: Male Breed: Boxer
Home: Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada

My name is Zeus! Also affectionately known as Zeus Moose, Zeusy Guy, Zeusy Baby, Moosers, Baby Boy and Zeusical the Musical. My friend Cassandra was Dog of the Day on May 15 this year, so my mom thought she would nominate me too!

I was adopted from Los Angeles by my mom and dad three years ago through Without Borders Boxer Rescue, based in Vancouver, BC. WBBR works with Boxer Rescue Los Angeles where I was living as my previous owner surrendered me as I was too expensive to take care of. Before that home, my story is unclear but it is thought that I did roam around the mean streets of LA for the first year of my life as a stray. My mom and dad were interviewed by WBBR where they were told that the WBBR philosophy is not to find a dog for a human but to find a human for a dog in need. When my mom received the email proposing me for adoption, she knew it was destiny as I already had her favorite dog name, Zeus!

I arrived to my mom at Vancouver International Airport on a hot July sunday where I met her for the first time. One of my aunties came with her too that day and I got to sit in the back seat and stick my head out the window the whole way home! I think I am a very small dog, when I am actually 82 pounds but I manage to sit on my mom's lap sometimes anyways. The first couple of months in my new home I was scared and did not want anyone but my mom. I refused to be alone with my new dad or uncle and all men scared me. My mom thinks I may have been abused at some point in my life. I cried all day when my mom was at work but when she came home went on long walks in to the forest and to the dog park! I would have sleepovers at my dad's house as well without mom so I could get used to being alone with him. Soon I wasn't scared of men anymore. I also had many health problems but my mom and dad took me to the vet and got me all better. I began to have some trouble at the dog park as I was a teenager by now and not sure exactly where I fit in the dog park pack. Eventually my mom and dad took me to obedience classes and I really started to shine! I am a lover at heart, not a fighter. I just needed someone to be patient with me and show me the ropes.

Now a days, I live with my mom, dad and uncle in our townhouse complex where there are lots of dogs to play with. I have many aunties and uncles (even a couple who fight over who gets to watch me when I cant go away with my parents!) and awesome grandparents! My mom organizes a Boxer Meetup Group so I can go play with other boxers once a week (we are silly players and sometimes other dogs don't quite know what to do) and we also go to the dog park so I can play with all types of dogs! My best friends are a black lab and a golden lab/pitbull cross. We play for hours! I have also had two foster sisters though I prefer to be the only dog in the house after a little while. My favorite thing to do is snuggle and eat bananas. My dad says I need to go to "Bananas Anonymous" as I just can't get enough of them. I am very chatty when I want something, though I do not bark. I just make little cow like sounds, or a few muffs here and there but I do love to whine at my parents. I always want to be in the same room as my humans and love when both mom and dad take me on walks together! My dad likes to take me running in the trails by my house and my mom loves to take me hiking. Sometimes one of my uncles takes me out with his two dogs and we go to the beach! I am not that great at swimming but if my dad or my uncle are in the water with me, I might go in up to my neck. Like a true Cali dog, I love to be warm and in the sun, so summer is my favorite month! I get bored of the rain in Vancouver sometimes and I refuse to go on walks. Most of the time my mom makes me go but sometimes she feels lazy too so we just snuggle under a blanket together! Sometimes I get to go to work with my dad (like today) and then I get to be outside all day long!

To sum it up, I am sure happy that my mom and dad decided to give me a forever home (it has a yard too!) and that I have so many people who love me now!
