Scout
is our sweet, sensitive, sixty-pound girl. She is a lover and a
snuggler and a big play-baby, and when we got her at twelve weeks old, all I
wanted to do was stay home and play with her all day.
Scout has lots of dog friends, and she happily plays however they want to
- with Silver it is tennis-ball-fetch, with Gretchen wrestle-and-chase,
with Boone the-big-ear-chew, with Scruffy climb-all-over-my-head, and with
Oscar, put-up-with-puppy.
As much as she loves her friends, Scout loves tennis balls. She roots
around in my gym bag when I return from the club and digs out all the new
ones, bats them around the floor like a cat, and then we go to the park
and throw balls. Needless to say, I get tired first!
Scout is a smart girl, she wants to please, plus she loves to run and
fetch, but for all that she'd make a terrible hunting dog because she's
frightened of loud noises. If you shout, she'll run and hide. If you
arrive wearing a tool belt, she'll run and hide. If it's the fourth of
July, she'll run and hide. And if it storms overnight, she'll creep up,
shaking, to the top of the bed and attach herself to your head.
Scout is our big baby girl and we love her!
