Griffon
is an extremely affectionate dog with adults, children and even
babies. He is a fantastic play partner for other dogs, regardless of breed
and/or size. The puppy nursery school (Dances with Dogs in South Portland,
Maine) had an established weight limit of thirty pounds at which time the dogs
would graduate due to size. As Griffon was so gentle with puppies, the Pack
Leader kept him until he reached 47 pounds at which time he was described as
an elephant among chimpanzees and graduated. He is extremely well socialized
and attends two different day care facilities each week. He will turn three years
old on September 10, 2012.
Griffon loves to take walks with us in the woods and swim in our local lakes
and ponds. He has two feline friends, Pi and Ollie, with whom he shares the
house and he even tries to share his stuffed toys with them. Chasing Frisbees
and tennis balls are a great joy also, although he'd rather play keep away
than bring them to me. He and I also take walks in Portland's Old Port
section during which he greets the many tourists who flock to Maine in the
summer. He performs the normal sit, lay and shake 'tricks' as well as
balancing treats on his nose until released to toss it in the air and catch it.
Since Griffon became a member of our family at eight weeks old he has
provided us with unlimited love, fun and excitement. He is in the final
stages of becoming a Therapy Dog. Once he obtains certification, he will
visit hospitals, veterans' facilities and nursing homes to bring love and joy to all.
