I
have had Millie for seven years. When she was eighteen months old, very luckily, she
was rescued by the Greyhound Awareness League and was adopted by me and we
have been together ever since. We are soon about to celebrate her 9th birthday.
She is a very special girl because she is suffering from a heart condition
called myocardia. This means she can be lying still at home, or out playing
in the fields, and her heart will just suddenly stop! It can stop for
anything from a few seconds to up to a minute, before starting to beat again.
She has had many tests carried out at the local vet school, but there is no
treatment as her condition is so rare. The vet said not to wrap her up in
cotton wool, but just let her enjoy each day as it comes. Unfortunately two
of her litter sisters have died from a similar heart condition. Apparently it
is common for deep-chested dogs to have heart issues. Because of Millie's
condition, we treat each and every day like its her last and shower her with
love and affection.
Her favorite food is chicken or sardines, and her favorite toy is a white
fluffy seal. When she gets excited or someone comes to the front door, she
runs and grabs her toy seal. :) This is very cute, it's like she's bringing
you a gift.
She lives along side my three other greyhounds and is best pals with Mouse (my
youngest one). Millie behaves like the mother of the pack and washes the
other dogs ears and faces. She has the sweetest nature of all and loves
cuddles from everyone.
