Riley
Mae is one of the nicest dogs you could imagine once she gets to
know you. On first impression she can be a bit intimidating but within
minutes she will be pawing at you to pay attention and to pet her. She
loves playing with her big brother Ben or her best friend Grace. They are
both ten-year-old Saint Bernard's, so Riley does most of the playing. They
do a lot of watching her run around them. There has only been one
accident, Riley was running and playing one time and she ran into a
Shepherd's hook which damaged her spleen. She had to have it removed due
to trauma. A few weeks in recovery and she was back up and going full
force again!
Riley is very standoffish with strangers and will bark whenever someone
comes to the door. She is very good at going to her "rug" and staying
until we tell her that she can say hi. But she never stops barking! Then
once the guest takes off their shoes she goes and smells each one, if you
pass the smell test you are her friend for life. She will of course smell
the shoes every time you come over just to make sure you are the same
person that visited last time. She loves to sit outside on the hill in the
back yard and look into the woods. Chasing birds out of the yard is a
favorite pastime of hers.
When I leave for work in the morning she can be such a drama queen.
Sometimes laying on my feet while I am putting my shoes on or running to
the back door wanting to go with me. I tell her that I will be home soon
and when I do come home she is crying and runs to her chair, jumps in it
and gives me kisses. She makes coming home every night very special.
Riley Mae sure has made our household interesting over the years and we
look forward to a lot more interesting years to come!
