Ford
and Daisy are my four-legged kids and buddies to my two teenagers. I
try to take them everywhere possible. They both love the water and the
outdoors. Ford is more laid back and has been with our family since January
2010. Daisy Mae is more active, always digging up the scent of a mole rat
or whatever crossed into 'her' yard. We added Daisy to our clan in July 2011.
They are technically Miniature Dachshunds but they are both rescues so
they're not within AKC breed standards as Ford is a whopping 22 pounds and
Daisy is a healthy fifteen pounds. Trust me, you would think Ford eats all the
time but he is on a very strict diet and gets a good walk almost every day.
Since I am in the Army, I even jog with them so they get a good work out -
he's just a stocky boy.
I never intentionally sought out a Miniature Dachshund as I have read the
breed can be stubborn, hard to house-train, and are prone to be overweight.
All of this is true but what you don't read about is how they are the
biggest clowns, fantastic cuddle bugs, and just want to be with you all the
time. Once we had one it just seemed natural to get a second. They are also
easy to move around since I do that every few years. When I have to go out
of town on Army training and leave my babies, I don't always know who I
miss more - the kids or the dogs. I know the dogs miss me more than the
kids do.
They are the cause of many laughs, jokes and all around fun in our
household, and even though they can be a handful, we wouldn't know what to
do without them.
We love you Ford and Daisy!
