Skye's
so soft, he loves getting his belly rubbed, and he has a crazy eye.
- Elizabeth (seven years old).
We got Skye from our local animal shelter. He was in a pen by himself,
throwing a ball up and chasing it, over and over. He started off as a very
high energy dog and has finally started calming down a little in the last
few years. He loves to play frisbee, fetch and goes crazy for a laser pointer.
He's a great watch dog and always lets us know when someone is coming up to
the house. He looks ferocious when he barks, because of his "crazy" eye,
but he's a sweetheart. He loves to cuddle, he enjoys having his belly
rubbed and being scratched behind the ears.
He can sit, lie down, stay and roll over and will do anything he can for a
treat. He's great with kids, but he used to scare some kids when he was
younger because he would get so hyper and run around them. Must be that
herding instinct.
We had an invisible fence up for a while and he was pretty good with that
until he learned that he could run though it really fast and then be free.
He got hit by a car once and we were scared that he was going to get really
hurt, but he walked away. We got rid of the invisible fence and now we just
keep a close eye on him when he's in the front yard and make sure he
doesn't get a chance to chase cars. Luckily, we live on a dead end road, so
we don't get much traffic.
Unfortunately, Skye was diagnosed with lymphoma a few weeks ago, and it's
spread to his liver. He's still doing well and has good times more than bad
times. There are several young dogs in the neighborhood that are always
stopping over and they all go out and run around the yard together and play
and that really brings Skye back to full energy for a while.
We love him a lot.
