Toby
was a Chesapeake Bay retriever who lived life big, and left pawprints
on hearts around the world. He was from Edmonton, Alberta Canada Toby was
ten when he recently passed away, there is so much that made him special.
Toby was a great example of resilience. He was placed in a rescue
organization when he was five, and we were fortunate to become his forever
family. His goofy, quirky and sometimes destructive behavior became quite a
force to reckon with, much to our surprise. But rather than giving up, we
called in the reinforcements, the behaviorists who helped us discover that
Toby needed a job. He became a pet assisted therapy dog, volunteering at a
local hospital for more than four years.
His story was published in "Chicken Soup for the Soul - What I Learned From The Dog"
in 2009, and then I wrote "On Toby's Terms" which is now in
development to become a major motion picture. His new book "Toby The Pet
Therapy Dog & His Hospital Friends," has inspired other books in a
children's series. He raised thousands for charities, presented to 10,000
children across north America and enlisted close to 10,000 people on his
global kindness mission. But most of all he loved bigger than life and gave
everyone so much just by being Toby.
