Ziggy
is a rescue greyhound. He came to me at the age of four years from a
rescue where he was dumped at the end of racing career. Racing greyhounds
usually only race from around eighteen months to maximum four years old. By then,
they are too slow to compete and as soon as they stop earning their keep
(winning money for the owners), they are turfed out to rescues, or worse.
Ziggy came to live with me and my other three greyhounds (also rescues) but
took a couple of years to settle. He was terrified of loud noises,
terrified to go outside and very wary of men. He was more than likely badly
treated during his racing days.
Now, three years on, he's becoming more confident and is beginning to enjoy
life. Ziggy is definitely a couch potato! He would happily sleep for 22
hours a day, one hour eating & the other hour lying in the garden on a sunny
day. He loves his soft toys but if they squeak he tends to rip the stuffing
ou He's also got a soap fetish, he sneaks in the bathroom whenever I forget
to shut the door & sneaks in to steal the soap!
As mentioned before, he doesn't like being outside much, as he is wary of
strange noises, however he just loves being fussed over and if someone
stops to give him a pat, he jumps right up on them for cuddles! He's great
with other dogs, big and small, and even likes my mum's cat! He's a joy to
have around and I wouldn't be without him now.
