Dodge
is my Australian Cattle Dog (also called a Blue Heeler). Dodge has
been with us since he was eight weeks old. The day after we brought him home
we realized he was deaf. Deafness is quite common in Blue Heelers but
obviously it was a shock. We also have a three-year-old blue merle Border
Collie called Loki, I had always used signals along with spoken commands
to train Loki so Dodge picked most of it up quickly ... such a smart little boy!
Being deaf has not stopped Dodge enjoying life to the full...he runs
offlead at the park, beach and woods, he hates being out of my sight but
if he does venture too far Loki goes finds him and nudges him back towards
mum. Dodge is now nine months old and knows over forty signals, but like all
puppies he sometimes ignores mum ... he just pretends he can't see me
signing him! :D Gotta love him!
