Hedy
Lamarr came in to our lives a few months after we'd lost my sweet cat,
Lucy, who was 20.5 at the time of her passing. Hedy was one of three sibling
puppies in the shelter; while there, she was totally eclipsed by her brother
and sister and would just sit back and watch them play and compete for our
attention. Although we liked her curly hair better than the other two dogs,
we worried that she wouldn't be playful enough for us. But we sat with her at
the shelter for an hour or so and during that time she seemed to come out of
her shell a little bit so we decided to take her home.
We didn't have her home more than a couple of hours before she began to play.
Now, nearly six months later, we wish she was a little less playful! But to see
Hedy is to be enchanted and to know Hedy is to fall in love. Hedy is only ten
pounds and quite small, though her legs are very long. She looks like a fully
formed adult dog but in miniature. And Hedy is pure love - everyone she meets
and every animal she meets are her friends. This especially includes the
stray cat, Oliver, we adopted a few months after Hedy. They are the best of
friends and will chase and wrestle with each other all day long. They also
will sleep together and groom each other; which is so sweet to see.
The simple fact is, she annoys us, she charms us, and in the short time she's
been part of our lives, she has taught us as much as we've taught her. We
look forward to many more years with this little energetic bundle of pure
unadulterated joy.
