Cocoa
is our spunky, fluff-butt, King of the Neighborhood Knee Highs! He was
originally adopted by my younger sister, who was told at the time he was fourteen
years old. That was six years ago (which is why we're unsure of his age), and
he hasn't slowed down a bit. Our best guestimate is around twelve years old. He
came to live in Michigan a year ago with his little pup brother, Lambeau,
when my sister's family was stationed overseas.
Cocoa loves treats, running around the house shaking his head excitedly to
let everyone know what a good boy he is. He keeps all the young pups in the
neighborhood in line when they play in the yard, even though they're all three
times his size. They try to get him to play with them, bringing him sticks
and toys, but Cocoa is a simple dog, preferring to just run, explore and sniff things.
Originally, we were just going to watch Cocoa for my sister's family, since
they were worried with his senior status, my nieces (age nine and six) would be
upset if he passed on while they were overseas. We drove down and picked up
his "brother" Lambeau (a three-year old Malti-Tzu) after they decided he wouldn't
be safe flying with his short snout.
Here's a video of Cocoa and Lambeau reuniting last year after we drove back
from picking up Lambeau in Nebraska.
There's nothing better than coming home to his big grin and
his goofy sideways "You're back!" dance. Cocoa is 100% responsible for
turning my boyfriend into a dog person, which I think is a testament to what
an awesome personality Cocoa has. He'll wake up in the middle of the night
now and ask where Cocoa is, and if I don't respond "By my feet" He'll call
for him and pat the bed to get him to jump up to sleep with us. He'll also
sneak him human food when I'm not paying attention :) I hope Cocoa sticks
around with us for many more years.
