Throughout
the years all of my farm dogs have gotten hit by a car, were
stolen, ran away, etc. So when we went to the Wolf lake Swap Meet I was in
heaven. There were pets everywhere! My dad finally gave in after years of
begging and said we could get a dog. We settled on a Rottweiler mix with
extremely icy blue eyes, I believe he was blind. My parents persuaded me to
keep looking and at the end of the last row we saw a truck and a trailer
being set up. On that stand there were guns and such, but a crowd was forming
around a fenced in area. My mom and I sprinted over to see what the fuss was
about and we saw little Aussie pups scampering about. My Dad, however, went
to look at the guns. I snatched up a merle Aussie which my mom and I just
adored. My dad suddenly appeared by our side and asked the breeder if he had
any females because apparently he thinks they are better to train. The
breeder looked around the pups and pointed to a sleeping black puppy.
"That's the only girl." he replied. We snatched up the runt as quick as
lightning and paid the $100 for her and her papers and left the meet. Lady
had worms and fleas and was only six weeks old when we bought her. It's still
amazing how much she grew in the first year! First she was as small as a tile
and you could pick her up and carry her everywhere and now she's a beautiful
dog who walks you on the leash and chews up her Rawhides faster than the
blink of an eye.
Lady is a working dog and always needs to be active. I have lady run to the
one side of the house while I bolt and hide. She keeps me in shape,
thankfully. Instead of playing hide and seek, Lady also herds my Grandpa's
head of cattle which is let into our hay field in the fall. I believe that is
her favorite time of the day.
Lady has learned about 50 tricks and is always pleased to learn more. From
sitting and laying down, she can know when to stop chasing a cow or even
which cow she should chase next. I can not imagine how different my life
could be if I never owned her.
I'm so grateful we woke up at 5 am on July 10th that year and went down to
look at the Swap meet. Because of that, Lady Changed our lives and we changed
hers and found her a forever home. Which is here, with my family.
