This
is Hunter, and he is a standard labradoodle. My family has always had
dogs, but in a way he is the first dog that is really mine. He sheds like a
Lab, unfortunately, not like the poodle side of his gene pool, but it's not
bad compared to our past dogs.
He knows tricks like sit, stay, down, roll over, play dead, shake, beg,
tunnel, jump, up, go under a bar, and go through a hoop. He rings a bell when
he wants to go out, he will sniff the ground on command, he'll give me a kiss
on command, head down, come, and use a teeter totter. He can hit a
volleyball, drop it, leave it, spin and he can weave through legs. He loves
to run and play hide and seek and play fetch.
I got him on my birthday because my favorite chicken had died that morning
and I was so devastated about it (I was little at the time so you know it was
a big deal then). It always makes me so proud when he learns a trick and I'm
striving to become a veterinarian and Hunter has been a big part of
motivating me to do so. Before him I didn't know if I really wanted to put up
with all the blood and what not that goes with the job, but now I know that
it's more than worth it if I can help people keep their pets healthy and in
top condition to be their friend for as long as possible.
If I didn't have a dog I don't think I would have such insight into life and
I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much. He's affectionate but I think he likes to
act like a tough dog because he likes to climb up on the couch with me and he
likes to be pet but he's not like our other dog where she rolls over and
licks your hand and just demands attention. He kinda talks with his eyes and
eyebrows a lot and I think he really thinks he's human. If you call him like
pudgy or fat when he's in front of you, he gets up and walks away and I feel
that he really does understand what people are saying and that's what makes
him so special to me.
